Pre-Operative Testosterone Treatment

In some cases, a short course of hormone treatment is given before surgery. The goal is to enlarge the penis and the surrounding tissue somewhat, making the repair technically easier.

The form and duration of treatment are determined by the pediatric urologist; it is usually started a few weeks before surgery and continued for a limited period.

  • After treatment, blood flow to the tissue temporarily increases; for this reason, the timing of surgery is planned separately by the doctor.

  • It is not needed in every case; it is not a routine treatment.
  • Temporary hair growth and darkening of the skin can occur during treatment; these fade once treatment ends.
