The actual degree can be measured directly. A clear photograph taken from the side during erection is the most valuable piece of information at the examination; bringing one with you speeds up the process.

• If needed, measurement is done by the doctor during an erection induced with medication.

The general standard is achieving enough straightness that intercourse is not obstructed. A very slight remaining curvature that does not impair function can be accepted.

• 30–45°: dorsal plication. Quick and reliable; some shortening is expected.
• Pronounced curvature: lengthening the underside with a graft. Length is preserved; the procedure is more extensive, and good erectile rigidity is expected beforehand.
• If the channel is also affected: curvature and channel repair are addressed in a single plan, staged if necessary.
• If curvature alone is present: a limited correction is possible without touching the channel.

Because growth is complete, the correction is permanent; there is no concern, as there is in adolescence, about whether it will recur with further growth.
