Reassessment During Adolescence

• The penis grows; if the repaired channel cannot grow at the same rate, a stricture can appear.
• A length difference too small to measure at a young age becomes visible as curvature as the child grows.
• If hair-bearing skin was used in the repair, hormonal stimulation causes hair to start growing inside the channel.
• Appearance settles into its final form; cosmetic assessment is more accurate during this period.
• Body image and sexual function come into the conversation.

• Flow rate (uroflowmetry) and the amount of urine left after voiding.
• Measurement of curvature during erection.
• Opening width and appearance.
• Ejaculatory function and, if needed, questions related to fertility.
• The teenager's own expectations — they should take part in the decision at this age.

A stricture or curvature caught during this period can be resolved with a limited procedure. Interventions done years later, after the bladder has been affected or the tissue has deteriorated further, are far more extensive.
